new pieces on the practice site
A note from Al about the new pieces added to the practice site.
There are three new pieces on the practice site: Connected, Thula Sizwe and Overflowing.
They
are pretty straightforward except for Overflowing, which has some
oddness in the repeat on the first few pages. I skipped the intro and
the first time through the repeat, so it starts up at letter "A", the
second time through the repeat.
I also think the last note of the tenor part is wrong (it is definitely ugly!) but we'll have to check that with Andy.

Andy Sick, Rehearsal canceled
Dear BUF choir,
I have caught one of the worst cold I've had in a long time. I was hoping it would clear up by this afternoon but after taking the day off of school , I'm still in bed. I think that chamber choir with one more rehearsal is in good shape for the 28th. So I don't think we'll need to have that rehearsal.
We are still awaiting the music to arrive from Anastasia's service on the 12th. So we could work on our other material but we still have time for that so I think it's prudent to go ahead and cancel BUF choir rehearsal as well.
Sorry abut the late notice. I hope to see you next wednesday as my usual chipper self.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to email, Text, or call (be prepared to hear a nasty ogre on the other end though)

O Sifuni Mungu is on practice site!
Hey BUFsters,
I have put O Sifuni Mungu on the website It is quite complex, with all the repeats and such, so I hope I got it mostly right.
My
software can't handle situations where a note is tied across an
alternate ending (e.g., measures 17, 66) so I had to rearrange things a
bit. So my version won't look exactly like the printed page but it
should play correctly. (This shouldn't be a problem, since you should
probably be looking at the printed version when using the site. The
display on the site is only to help you navigate around, in case you
want to repeat a section to burn it into your brain, etc.)
See you Wednesday,
Al

Choir Help Needed!
Dear Choristers,
Its time to rally. You may or may not have heard but one of our beloved tenors, John Thibault, after his battle with cancer has moved on from this world. His voice and smile will be missed but I know his spirit will be with us when we sing again together (First rehearsal Aug 27th at 7pm). Before that however, there is some urgent business that needs taken care of at John's house. See Heidi's email below for the details.
See you soon.

Please forward to choir members.
Hi Folks,
Khore is staying with family in France until the 11th. She and John had been doing some maintenance and renovation this year, but as his health declined, he just couldn't do it all. I'd like to organize a work party for the 9th. There are some things that just need doing. I hate to think of her walking in for the first time without John and having to pull on the broken front door handle, for instance. It will be hard, but hopefully the love we have for her will make it easier.
The water went out two days ago. John's daughter is taking a look tonight and hopefully it's a simple fix. If not, we've got a pump and well guy coming Monday
High priority: reinforcing the fence. Their dog has been getting out daily. The cyclone fence top rails are fine, but the bottom rails have been rotting. Repairs with bricks in the holes are not sufficient.
Gate has a chewed bottom rail that needs repairing.
Front door screen needs a new handle.
Weed garden
Mow grass - there is an electric mower at the house
Spread chips - there is a large pile and Tasha says that would really make Khore happy.
Window washing - inside and out
General, thorough house cleaning.
Master bath has a spot of mold in one corner.
Area rug needs cleaning.
John had laid new flooring in two bedrooms and the flooring for the living room is sitting in the dining room. That's probably too much to take on, but it will be a high priority item for Khore. The old floor is already ripped out.
Plan: prior to the work party it would be good to have someone make a list of materials needed for the job
Someone to procure materials,
Folks to sign up for a task (I have photos, so I could send you a picture of what the repair is that needs to be made).
If you aren't handy with these tasks, maybe bring food for the workers?
Can't come Saturday?
Donate to the cause in some other way? You tell me.
I can work out another time before then if Saturday is a problem.
Thanks for whatever you can do!

it.
I miss singing with you all. Let me know if you need a uke player and I'll join you then!

a couple new videos added to choir blog
Videos for An Irish Love Duet and The Awakening have been added to the choir blog.
I only found one video of An Irish Love Duet. Remember how Andy is always increasing the tempo when the men enter? Listen to the first entrance of the men here and you will see why. Bless their hearts, but does it drag!
There were many, many recordings of The Awakening, and I finally just chose one of the better ones.
If you run across other recordings you like, share them on our Facebook page!
